Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornet men can't get anything going against Maine Maritime

Lyndonville, VT - Maine Maritime Academy scored three rebound goals and went on to post a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer victory over Vermont State University on Saturday afternoon.  The Mariners raised their overall record to 4-3-1 in winning their conference opener.  The Hornets remain winless in five outings, including two NAC matchups.

MMA got on the scoreboard in the ninth minute.  Lyndon goalkeeper Robert McDonald (Arnold, MD) turned away a shot from Dillon Wilkerson but Holden Nichols was there to poke home the rebound.  The second Mariner goal was also the result of a rebound after McDonald stopped John-John Dickerson's initial shot.  This time it was Reuben Harrison who converted the rebound.

In the 16th minute, Harrison scored his second goal when he took a cross from Wilkerson and fired in a shot.  The Mariners scored for the third time off of a rebound in the 38th minute when Xander Fortuna-Ramos converted after McDonald stopped the initial shot from Harris Stoddard.

Maine Maritime took the four-goal advantage into halftime, and that would prove to be all of the scoring on the afternoon.  The Mariners took 49 shots, with 19 of them being on goal, without allowing the Hornets a single shot.  McDonald would finish with a career best 14 saves, while Mariner keepers Reagan Moynihan and Justin Labelle combined for the shutout without having to make a save.

Lyndon will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Masachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a non-conference game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
