Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon stayed with Salem State University well into the second half of Thursday's non-conference women's soccer game.  The Vikings clung to a one-goal advantage past the 60-minute mark before adding a pair of late goals to  come away with their first win of the season.  Salem State improved to 1-5-1, while Lyndon fell to 0-4.

Brenna Paquette got Salem State on the board in the 19th minute when she took a through ball from Cassandra Harrington and put it past Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH).  Cordwell came up with several stops to keep it 1-0 heading into halftime.

Lyndon was able to keep it at a one-goal game in the early minutes of the second half, thanks in part to a pair of Cordwell saves.  In the 64th minute the Vikings were able to create some breathing room when Paquette converted a Sydney Durkin corner.  Savannah Scrodin made it 3-0 less than two minutes later when after Cordwell stopped her initial stop she poked the rebound into the net.

Salem State outshot Lyndon, 44-5, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Ava Guyer recorded a clean sheet for the Vikings as she stopped four Hornet shots on goal, two from Maisy Perez (Laredo, TX), and one each from Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) and Felicity Flores (Winstead, CT).  Cordwell made 16 saves in the Hornet goal.

Lyndon will get back into North Atlantic Conferenc play on Saturday afternoon when they host Maine Maritime Academy on Homecoming & Family Weekend.  Kickoff on Varsity Field is 1:00 pm.
