Lyndonville, VT - Paul Smith's College scored just over a minute into Saturday's men's soccer game against Vermont State University Lyndon and never looked back. The visiting Bobcats controlled play thoughout and downed the Hornets, 7-1, in the season opener for both teams.
Nick Grover took a pass from Tim Romero and scored 1:08 into the contest to put the Bobcats in front. After an own goal, Dalton Tenorio's unassisted tally in the 34th minute sent Paul Smith's into halftime wiht a 3-0 lead.
Grover completed his hat trick with a pair of unassisted scored in the 49th and 52nd minutes to extend the Paul Smith's advantage to 5-0. Gilbert Flores (Winstead, CT) broke the ice for the Hornets, finding the net on Lyndon's first shot of the game in the 56th minute. Bobcat goals from Cody Hanson and Derek Burns completed the scoring.
Hornet goalkeeper Robert McDonald (Arnold, MD) made seven stops in the Lyndon goal, while his Bobcat counterpart, Lucas Darling, earned the win without having to make a save.
Paul Smith's carried the play throughout, as they outshot Lyndon 37-2. The Bobcats also earned eight corner kicks and possessed the ball for 66% of the game.
The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Fisher College at 4:00 pm.
