New London, NH - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team couldn't overcome Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon. The host Chargers dominated in the rain and fog and emerged with a 12-0 non-conference victory. The win was the first in four starts for Colby-Sawyer, while Lyndon remains winless in four outings.
Cameron Cook put Colby-Sawyer in front with an unassisted goal just over five minutes into the contest. Josh Warner made it 2-0 just over a minute later, and the hosts added six more goals before half to take an 8-0 lead into intermission. The second half was more of the same, as the Chargers found the net four more times.
Cullen Visscher had a huge game for Colby-Sawyer, scoring four times on six shots. Eight other Chargers scored a single goal, as Colby-Sawyer outshot Lyndon, 52-1. Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) had Lyndon's only shot in the 67th minute, but that was turned away by Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Alex Gomez-Agudelo. Robert McDonald (Arnold, MD) made 12 saves in front of the Lyndon net.
The Hornets will travel to the University of Maine at Presque Isle next Saturday for a North Atlantic Conference contest. Game time is 2:30 pm.
