Lyndonville, VT - Thomas College exploded for 24 runs on 31 hits in taking both ends of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. The Terriers took the opener, 18-6, then came back from a four-run deficit for an 8-6 win in the nightcap.Thomas improved to 15-14 overall and 10-2 in the NAC, while Lyndon fell to 8-19 on the season and 4-6 in conference.
Game 1 - Thomas 18, NVU-Lyndon 6
The Terriers jumped in front with four runs in the second inning, then put the game out of reach with eight in the top of the seventh. Tony Meza had four hits and drove in four runs to pace Thomas. Patrick Temby had a double and two singles, drove in three runs and scored four times. Reid Gagnon had a triple and a home run and drove in three runs.
TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) had a double and a pair of singles, drove in two runs, and scored two more to lead Lyndon. Santaw's sixth inning RBI double was the 100th hit iof his collegiate career. Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA) doubled and scored.
Tyler Cantey earned the win in relief for Thomas. Lyndon starter Carlos Rodriguez (La Mirada, CA) took the loss.
Game 2 - Thomas 8, NVU-Lyndon 6
The Hornets loaded the bases with two outs in the home half of the second inning, then scored three runs on a Thomas error. Lyndon added a fourth unearned run in the inning to go up, 4-0. Lyndon still led by four, 6-2, when Thomas pushed across four runs, three of them unearned, in the top of the fifth inning to tie things. The Terriers then took the lead in the seventh.
Gagnon had another big game for Thomas with three hits a run scored and a run batted in. Elijah Morton and Matt Seymour both had two hits and two RBIs. Andrew Pruell earned the win in relief.
EJ Camden (Corona, CA) reached base safely four times for Lyndon, delivering two base hits and walking twice. Will Perkins (Holtwood, PA), Dylan Wilson (Monroe, CT), and Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT) also had two hits for the Hornets. Dale Ostermann (Milford, DE), the fourth Lyndon pitcher of the game, took the loss.
Games three and four of the series between the Hornets and Terriers have been postponed until Thursday due to expected inclement weather all day on Sunday. Lyndon will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon when they host Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
