Bangor, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team, hampered by a rash of injuries, was unable to stay with Husson University on Friday evening, falling 84-39 in the North Atlantic Conference matchup. With the win, Husson improved to 17-6 on the season and 11-1 in NAC play. Lyndon fell to 9-11 overall and 5-5 in conference.
Husson led wire to wire in collecting the victory, The Eagles closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run to lead 25-10, and never looked back. Vanessa Duarte led a balanced Husson attack, finishing with a game high 17 points. Bailey Donovan recorded a double double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, and added four blocks and three steals. Makaelyn Porter and Lauren Cook also reached double figures, finishing with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) was the only Lyndon palyer in double figures, as she tallied 13 points. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) pulled down ten rebounds for the Hornets.
Husson was 36/67 (53.7%) from the floor, including 9/19 (47.4%) from behind the three-point arc. Meanwhile, Lyndon was only 15/56 (26.8%) overall and only 6/20 (30.0%) from distance. The Eagles also owned a 45-30 rebounding advantage and forced 19 Lyndon turnovers while only committing nine themselves.
The same two teams will tip off again on Saturday in Bangor. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
