Bangor, ME - Husson University jumped out to a 13-2 lead just over five minutes into Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. The Eagles never looked back, cruising to a 66-37 victory. Husson improved to 18-6 on the season and 12-1 in NAC play while Lyndon fell to 9-12 overall and 5-6 in conference.
After Husson's fast start, Lyndon climbed back to within six points at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a period ending 7-0 run on a Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) layup and five straight points from Riann Fortin (Derby, VT). The Eagles held the Hornets to four second quarter points and extended their advantage to 33-16 at the half. Lyndon never threatened after intermission.
Hannah Richards led a balanced Husson attack with 13 points. Vanessa Duarte added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists and Bailey Donovan chipped in with six points and 14 rebounds.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) was the only Lyndon player in double figures for the second day in a row. She scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Porter added six points and eight boards and Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT grabbed six boards and handed out three assists.
Husson was 24/69 (34.8%) from the floor, including 8/30 (26.7%) from behind the three-point arc. Lyndon was 15/58 (25.9%) and 4/14 (28.6%) from distance. The Eagles held a 52-38 rebounding advantage and forced 21 Lyndon turnovers while committing 16 themselves.
Lyndon returns home next weekend when they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a pair of conference tilts. The Hornets and Owls will tip off Friday evening at 5:30 pm and again on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
