Box Score 2 North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team wrapped up play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a pair of games this morning. In their first game, they dropped a 9-0 decision to NAIA Shawnee State University. Then in their final contest of the tournament they fell, 9-6, to the University of Mary Washington. Lyndon heads back north with a 3-5 record. Shawnee State improved to 3-3 and Mary Washington remained unbeated at 5-0.

Game 2 - Mary Washington 9, NVU-Lyndon 6
The Hornets scored four times in the top of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead. The advantage was short lived, however, as the Eagles answered with six runs in the home half of the second and held off the Hornets the rest of the way.
Leadoff batter Aminah Shakir had a big game at the plate for Mary Washington. She was 3/4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Bridget Laychak scored twice and eight different Eagles hit safely.
Lyndon leadoff hitter Amber Everett (Morrisville, VT) also had a big game withtwo hits and a walk in four plate appearances. She came around to score all three times. Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) had two hits in four at bats.
Sarah Higbie pitched 3.2 innings in relief to pick up the win for Mary Washington. Samantha Stuart came on to collect the save. Victoria Valentine (Burke, VT) took the loss for Lyndon.
The Hornets are now off until March 12th, when they are scheduled to travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 noon.
