Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon took a five point lead into the final quarter of Wednesday night's non-conference women's basketball game against Vermont State University Castleton. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to hold off the visiting Spartans, as Castleton rallied for a 70-60 victory. Castleton improved to 5-4 on the season while Lyndon fell to 4-5.
Elise Magro paced Castleton with 20 points. Stasia Epler added 17 points while Kathryn Moore and Liz Bailey pulled down 14 and 10 rebounds respectively. Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) scored 16 points to lead Lyndon. Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) finished with 12 points and Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with nine points and five assists.
The Hornets return to North Atlantic Conference play this weekend when they travel to Thomas College for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Friday's tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm and Saturday's game tips at 3:00 pm.
