Neumann pulls away from Hornet men late to take Hamilton Tournament opener

Clinton, NY - Vermont State University Lyndon rallied from an early 13-point deficit to pull within one point of Neumann University early in the second half of Saturday's Hamilton College Thanksgiving Tournament opening game.  The Hornets were unable to get over the hump, however, as Newmann kept Lyndon at bay and pulled away late for a 109-81 victory.  The Knights earned their first win in three starts this season while the Hornets remain winless in five outings.

Kyle Thompson paced Neumann with 29 points while Jalen Vaughns added 26 points and nine rebounds.  TJ Lewis and Darnelle Forrest also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) led Lyndon with 27 points.  Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) added 18 points on six three-point goals while Owen Traynor (Rutland, VT) tallied 15 points and a team best seven rebounds.

Lyndon will face fellow North Atlantic Conference school SUNY Morrisville in Sunday's consolation game, which tips at noon.  Morrisville was defeated by host Hamilton, 90-68, in Saturday's nightcap.  Hamilton and Neumann will square off for the tournament championship at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
