Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hornet women's soccer falls to SUNY Cobleskill in a NAC crossover matchup

Lyndonville, VT - In a matchup of two teams seeking their first win, it was the State University of New York at Cobleskill that came away with a 3-1 victory over Vermont State University Lyndon in Sunday's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer crossover game.  The Fighting Tigers moved to 1-9-1 on the season and 1-4 in NAC play, while the Hornets remained winless at 0-9 overall and 0-5 in conference.

Jojo Leubner got Cobleskill on the board in the 12th minute when she took a pass well above the box from Jessica Carney and put in the net past Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH).  The Tigers made it 2-0 just under six minutes later when Carney scored off of an assist from Miah Lathrop.

Lyndon cut the deficit to one goal in the 29th minute.  Hannah Badertscher (Irasburg, VT) beat her defender on the left wing, then fired a shot past Cobleskill keeper Dory Gosselin to make it 2-1.  That's the way things stayed heading into halftime, as the Hornets seemed to have the better of the play during the closing minutes of the half but were unable to score the equalizer.

The second half was played on even terms in the early going.  Both teams had good scoring opportunities, but Cordwell and Gosselin were up to the task.  In the 71st minute Cobleskill was able to break through with an insurance goal.  Lathrop took a cross from Gabriella Beaumier that was redirected by Leubner and fired it past Cordwell.  That would turn out to be the final margin.

Cobleskill outshot Lyndon, 23-11, and held a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Cordwell finished with ten saves for Lyndon, while Gosselin stopped five Hornet shots, four coming from Riann Fortin (Newport, VT).

Lyndon will take to the road on Tuesday for a non-conference game at Bay Path University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
