Longmeadow, MA - Vermont State University Lyndon scored early and often, rolling to a 13-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Bay Path University on Tuesday afternoon. The win was Lyndon's first of the season and the first for Hornet head coach Samantha Valentine. Lyndon moved to 1-9 on the season, while Bay Path remained winless in six outings.
Alexis Leroy (Dunedin, FL) got the Hornets on the board in the 12th minute when she took a pass from Felicity Flores (Winstead, CT) and fired it past Bay Path goalkeeper Taylor Suffoletto. Maachah Krull (Woodsville, NH) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) later poked in a rebound off of a Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) shot, then Fortin scored off of a feed from Thea Cooper (Barton, VT) to send Lyndon into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
Lyndon broke the game wide open with five goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Cooper got things started in the 50th minute with a goal assisted by Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH). Flores followed with a pair of unassisted goals. Unassisted goals from Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) and Fryman gave the Hornets a 9-0 lead in the 60th minute.
Flores found Fortin for a tally in the 68th minute, moving Lyndon into double figures. Victoria Fitih (Madison, TN) picked up an unassisted goal a minute later, then Leroy added her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute.
Bay Path averted a shutout in the 76th minute when Isabella Ferrara found Caroline Austin and Austin put a shot past Lyndon goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH). Hannah Badertscher's (Irasburg, VT) unassisted goal in the 86th minute completed the scoring.
Lyndon outshot Bay Path, 61-6, and earned seven corner kicks to none for the Wildcats. Cordwell made three saves in net, while Suffoletto made 22 stops in the Bay Path goal. The 13 goals scored by the Hornets matched the program record since the program returned to Division III play in 2008. Lyndon also scored 13 times in a 2016 victory over the College of Saint Joseph.
Lyndon will look to build on its momentum when they return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets will host Thomas College in a 1:00 Senior Day matchup.
