Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon battled Thomas College to a scoreless tie through the first half of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game. However the visiting Terriers scored three times in an eight minute stretch early in the second half and went on to post a 4-0 victory over the Hornets. With the win, the Terriers improved to 5-8 on the season and evened their NAC record at 3-3. Lyndon fell to 1-10 overall and 0-6 in conference.
The Hornets bent but didn't break in the first half. Thomas got off eight shots in the game's first 20 minutes and 13 for the half. Meanwhile, Lyndon only managed Riann Fortin's (Newport, VT) shot in the 29th minute.
Coming out of halftime, the Terriers broke the ice in the 48th minute when Aminah Davis-Macias put a shot past Lyndon goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) and into the goal. Mary Larochelle and Davis-Macias then notched a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, and suddenly Lyndon found itself facing a three-goal deficit with 30 minutes to go. Lyndon was unable to break through, however, and Davis-Macias completed her hat trick in the 86th minute to account for the final score.
Thomas outshot Lyndon, 28-5, in the contest. Terrier keeper Emily Rock made two saves in recording the shutout while Cordwell stopped 18 shots in front of the Lyndon goal.
Prior to the game, Lyndon recognized seniors Cordwell and Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT), who were playing in their final home game. Cordwell and Valentine were joined on the field by their families, friends, and teammates as head coach Samantha Valentine thanked them for their contributions to Hornet soccer.
Lyndon will travel to Plymouth State University on Wednesday for a non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
