Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle swept two volleyball matches from Vermont State University Lyndon on Sunday afternoon, prevailing 3-0 in both contests. The Owls improved their overall record to 5-12 with the wins. The first match was a North Atlantic Conference contest, and the win moved UMPI to 2-4 in conference. Lyndon remains winless in 13 matches, including five NAC outings.
Match #1 - UMaine Presque Isle 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-16)
The first set was tightly contested in the early going before a five point Owls run gave the hosts some breathing room midway through the frame. The Owls dominated the second set and recovered from an early Hornet advantage to pull away in the third set.
Alondra Lopez-Aquino had 12 kills and eight digs to pace UMPI. Amalia Erives and Alexis Engel posted 14 and 10 assists respectively. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) led Lyndon with four kills and seven digs. Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) recorded seven assists and seven digs.
Match #2 - UMaine-Presque Isle 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-6)
The Owls were in control throughout in the nightcap. Lopez-Aquino again led the Owls with 12 kills. Erives had 21 assists and Engel was credited with seven digs. Mack had four kills for the Hornets. Morris had four assists and Audrey Tembreull (Vergennes, VT) notched a team best seven digs.
The Hornets will take to the road on Wednesday evening when they travel to Vemont State University Johnson for a NAC matchup. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
