Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Badgers pull away from Hornet women in the second half

Johnson, VT - Vermont State University Johnson scored four second half goals to break open a one-goal game and defeat Vermont State University Lyndon, 5-0, in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference women's soccer game.  The Badgers improved to 7-1-2 on the season while the Hornets remain winless in seven outings.

The Hornets had the game's first scoring opportunity in the fourth minute, but Felicity Flores (Winstead, CT) had her shot stopped by Johnson goalkeeper Isabel Atkisson.  Johnson responded with several shots on Lyndon keeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) over the next few minutes, but Cordwell was up to the task and kept the game scoreless.

Johnson would break through in the 27th minute when Matt House was able to poke a cross from Brittney Love past Cordwell.  The Badgers had an opportunity to extend their lead when Lyndon was called for a foul in the box in the 33rd minute.  However Cordwell turned away Love's penalty kick to keep it a one-goal game.  That's how things would stay heading into halftime.

Love would find the net in the 52nd and 59th minutes to extend the Johnson lead to 3-0.  The Badgers would add a pair of insurance goals from Olivia Davis to account for the final score.  Meanwhile, the Hornets struggled to muster much offense, as Maachah Krull's (Woodsville, NH) shot in the 78th minute was the only other time that Atkssson was tested.

Johnson outshot Lyndon, 24-2, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Cordwell recorded nine saves in teh Hornet goal while Atkisson had a pair of saves.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the State University of New York at Delhi in a North Atlantic Conference crossover matchup.  Kickoff on Varsity Field is set for 1:00 pm.
