Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sluggish offense plagues Hornet men at Plattaburgh

Plattsburgh, NY - Plattsburgh State University turned 23 Northern Vermont University-Lyndon turnovers into 31 points enroute to a 90-57 non-conference men's basketball victory on Tuesday afternoon.  With the win the Cardinals improved to 4-8 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 2-9.

With Plattsburgh leading 8-7 just over six minutes into the game, the host Cardinals used a 17-0 run over the next four minutes to open up a double figure advantage that they would never relinquish.  The Cardinal lead would grow to 21 following a Kevin Tabb layup at the 3:41 mark of the half before the Hornets closed the half on an 8-1 run, leaving Plattsburgh with a 14-point advantage at intermission.

The Cardinals gradually extended their advantage throughout the second half and cruised to the win.

Tabb led Plattsburgh with a game high 24 points and nine rebounds.  Justin Blanchette posted a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Myles Jones chipped in 12 points.  Jaden Phillips (Tempe, AZ) paced Lyndon with 12 points and Peyton Olsen (Middleburgh, NY) added 11.

Plattsburgh was 33/84 (39.3%) from the floor, including 6/26 (23.1%) from three-point range.  Lyndon was only 25/74 (33.8%) from the floor and only 5/26 (19.2%) from distance.  The Cardinals also held a big advantage at the free throw line, converting 18 of 28 attempts to only 2 of 5 for Lyndon.  Plattsburgh also won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Hornets 56-48.

The Hornets return to North Atlantic Conference action on Friday evening when they host SUNY Canton in a 7:30 pm crossover contest.
