Hornet men unable to recover from early deficit at SUNY Cobleskill

Cobleskill, NY - North Atlantic Conference West Division leading State University of New York at Cobleskill led from wire in Saturday's NAC crossover game against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.  The Fighting Tigers pulled away for a 92-69 victory to improve to 13-4 on the season and 6-2 in NAC play.  Lyndon fell to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in conference.

Cobleskill sprinted to a 13-4 advantage a little over five minutes into the game following a transition layup from Andre Starks.  The Hornets climbed back within three following Peyton Olsen's (Middleburgh, NY) driving layup at the 8:39 mark.

After the two teams traded baskets, the Tigers went on a quick 8-0 run to extend their lead to double figures at 29-18 with 5:37 to go in the half.  Cobleskill closed the half on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes to take a 40-23 lead into halftime.

Lyndon was not able to get any closer than within 14 points in the second half as Cobleskill cruised to the victory.

Starks had a huge game to lead the Tigers.  He finished with 33 points, 21 in the first half, and added five assists.  Isiah Pigott added 13 points eight rebounds, and six assists and Markel Jenkins posted a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Jeremy Rosario also scored 11 points for the tigers.

Freshman Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) scored a career high 27 points to lead Lyndon.  Olsen finished with 18 points and Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) added 14 points.  Calder Horowitz-McCadden (South Burlington, VT) recorded team highs of seven rebounds and five assists.

The Hornets will travel to Vermont Technical College for a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm.
