Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hornet women's soccer shuts out Vermont Tech

Randolph, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Vermont Technical College in Thursday's non-conference women's soccer game.  The win was Lyndon's second in a row, as the Hornets improved to 2-5-1 on the season.  The homestanding Knights fell to 1-4-1.

The Hornets controlled play throughout the first half but were unable to break through.  Lyndon had ten shots, five of them on goal, while Vermont Tech was unable to generate a shot.  Lyndon's Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY), nearly got the Hornets on teh board in the 33rd minute, but her shot hit the crossbar.  Knight goalkeeper Michaela Chase turned away five other Hornet shots, and the teams went into halftime scoreless.

When the second half started, it took less than a minute for Lyndon to break through.  Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) found Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH) making a run down the right side of the pitch.  Fryman delivered a beautiful cross to the far side of the goal that Palladino touched back to Fortin.  Fortin put the ball into the open net for the first goal of the game.

The Hornets added an insurance goal in the 56th minute.  Palladino beat her defender down the left wing and fired a shot at the goal.  The ball bounded off of Chase, and Fryman was on the spot to poke it past Chase and into the goal.  That was all the scoring, as Lyndon cruised to the win.

Lyndon controlled play throughout, as they outshot Vermont Tech, 23-1, and earned the only three corner kicks of the game.  Hornet keeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) finished with a clean sheet without having to make a save.  Chase made ten saves in teh Vermont Tech net.

The Hornets get back into North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when they host the University of Maine at Farmington in a key East Division matchup.  Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
