Castleton, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team opened up the 2022 season at host Castleton University in the opening round of the Vermont Volleyball Classic on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the home team scored the first ten points of the match and never looked back, cruising to a straight set victory by a score of 25-9, 25-8, 25-5.
Vanessa LeBrun led Castleton to the win, posting 11 kills. Setter Maddie Delsignore recorded 19 digs and ten aces and Caitlin Mahoney also finished with ten aces. Mahoney, Hailey Martinovich, and Mackenzie Wade all were credited with five digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Calysta Lohman (Seward, AK) paced the Hornets with six kills, equaling her career high. Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) had four assists and Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) had five digs.
The Hornets will return to the court tomorrow for two more matches at the Vermont Volleyball Classic. First, they will take on Norwich University at 12:00 noon. Then they will follow with a 2:00 pm match against Northern Vermont University-Johnson. Norwich was a 3-0 winner over NVU-Johnson in Friday's other Classic matchup.
