Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Plymouth State pulls away from Hornet women's soccer in the second half

Lyndonville, VT - Playing in a steady rain, Northern Vermont University-Lyndon and Plymouth State University played to a scoreless first half of Monday's women's soccer game.  As the second half began and the rain picked up, Plymouth found the net three times to come away with a 3-0 non-conference victory over the Hornets.  Plymouth improved to 4-3 with the win, while Lyndon fell to 0-4-1.

Plymouth controlled play in the first half, outshooting the Hornets, 20-1.  Some solid Hornet defense and strong goalkeeping from Lyndon's Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) kept the game even.  Lyndon actually had the best scoring opportunity of the half when Maachah Krull (Woodsville, NH) broke free but banged her shot off of the goalpost.

The skies opened up as the second half began and what was a steady rain became a downpour.  Plymouth broke through just over a minute into the half when Molly Bellmore took a through ball from Ashley Plante and was able to put it past Cordwell.  Plante followed with a pair of goals of her own, in the 56th and 59th minutes, to give the Panthers some breathing room, and the Panthers kept the Hornets at bay for the remainder of the contest.

Plymouth outshot Lyndon 39-3 for the match.  The Panthers also generated 13 corner kicks, while the Hornets were unable to create any corners.  Cordwell stopped 13 shots, while her Plymouth counterpart, Sophia Torello, was only called on to make one save in finishing with the clean sheet.

The Hornets will return to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Mitchell College for another non-conference contest.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.
