Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Shorthanded Hornet men are overwhelmed by Maine Maritime

Castine, ME - Maine Maritime Academy scored three times in the first eight minutes and cruised to a 9-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon.  Maine Maritime improved to 2-4 on the season and evened their conference record at 1-1.  Lyndon fell to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in NAC play.

MMA's John-John Dickerson forced a Lyndon turnover and scored just 45 seconds into the game to put the Mariners in front.  Dickerson then assisted on Ryan Smith's goal in the fifth minute.  Dominick Gecoya scored the first of his three goals at the 8:04 mark, and Xander Fortuna-Ramos found the net in the 26th minute to give the Mariners a 4-0 lead going into halftime.  MMA would tack on five more goals in the second half.

The Mariners dominated play throughout, outshooting the Hornets 33-4.  Lyndon goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) made 14 saves in goal, while Trevor Gray and Maxwel Tomlin each played a half in recording the clean sheet.  Gray stopped the only Lyndon shot on goal, an attempt by Jacob Basesmann (St. Johnsbury, VT) in the 32nd minute.

The Hornets return home next Saturday to host SUNY Canton on Homecoming and Family Weekend.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
