Waterville, ME - Thomas College made two first half goals stand up and knocked off Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer matchup. The game was the conference opener for both sides. Thomas improved to 1-2-1 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 0-2-1 overall.
Thomas got on the scoreboard barely over a minute into the game. During a scramble in front of the goal, Aminah Davis-Macias slipped a ball past Lyndon goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH). The Terriers made it 2-0 in the 18th minute when Emily Gutierrez poked a touch from Mary Larochelle past Cordwell.
The pair of first half scores would prove to be the only goals of the afternoon, as Cordwell stopped 11 Thomas shots to keep Lyndon in the game. The Hornets weren't able to get much going on the offensive end, however, as they were only able to generate four shots, all from Riann Fortin (Derby, VT), and no shots on goal. Meanwhile Thomas finished with 21 shots and held an 18-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hornets will travel to in-state rival Vermont Technical College for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
