Waterville, ME - Thomas College scored four times in the game's first 16 minutes and never looked back, handing Northern Vermont University-Lyndon a 10-0 defeat in the opening North Atlantic Conference men's soccer game for both teams. Thomas evened their overall record at 2-2, while Lyndon fell to 0-2-1 on the season.
The Terriers got on the board less than two minutes into the game when Eric LaBrie found Joshua Joseph and Joseph found the back of the net. Then in the 11th minute, Hunter Smith headed in a cross from Mustafa Najm to make it 2-0. Unassisted goals from Smith in the 13th minute and Joseph in the 16th minute would extend the Thomas lead to 4-0. Two more unassisted goals, from Shane Robinson in the 36th minute and Micky Woodrow in the 41st minute would send the teams into halftime with Thomas leading, 6-0.
Thomas would maintain control after intermission. Nick Shaw scored a pair of goals and Carter Pelletier and Nicholas Garcia each tallied once as the Terriers cruised to the victory,
The Terriers outshot the Hornets, 53-3, and held a 16-2 advantage in corner kicks. Lyndon starting goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) made nine saves in the first half before giving way to Jakob Cannon (Monument, CO), who made ten stops after intermission. Three Thomas keepers, Jayce Nielsen, Matthew Gosselin, and Declan Hay, combined for the clean sheet. Nielsen and Hay were each called on to make one stop, while Gosselin didn't face a shot on goal.
Lyndon returns home to face Vermont Technical College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
