Hornet men's lacrosse drops their home opener to Plymouth State

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's lacrosse team played their first home game of the season on Tuesday, as they hosted Plymouth State University on Varsity Field.  The visiting Panthers controlled play throughout and came away with a convincing 24-2 victory over the Hornets.  Plymouth improves to 3-7 on the season, while Lyndon falls to 1-6.

Multiple Panthers had big games on offense.  Joe O'Reilly led the way with three goals and eight assists on the afternoon.  Ryan Jones was the top goal scorer with four tallies and he added three assists.  Cam O'Shaughnessy recorded three goals and four assists and Declan Alexander also posted a hat trick.  Leif Charbonneau had a game high 16 ground balls and Jones added 10 ground balls.  Jake Lusardo caused three turnovers.

Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA) had a goal, an assist and a team best four ground balls for Lyndon.  Cam Meigs (St. Johnsbury, VT) had the Hornets' other goal.

Hornet goalie Aaron Florence (Lutz, FL) recorded a career high 31 saves.  Plymouth goalies Jessy Hirwa and Ian Gibbs each played a half, with Gibbons making the only save of the afternoon for the Panthers.

Plymouth outshot Lyndon, 80-5, and held a 62-18 advantage in ground balls.  The Panthers also dominated at the X, with faceoff men Charbonneau, O'Shaughnessy, and Seth Marcotte winning 25 of 29.  Lyndon struggled to possess the ball, as the Hornets turned it over 33 times and were unable to clear 16 of 21 attempts.

The Hornets will return to North Atlantic Conference play on Friday afternoon when they host SUNY Delhi at 4:00 pm.
