Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Hornet men's lacrosse falls to Husson on Senior Day

Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon was unable to dig all the way out of an early hole before Husson University finally put the host Hornets away in the fourth quarter of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse game.  With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-10 on the season and 3-4 in NAC play.  The Hornets fall to 1-9 overall and remain winless in seven conference starts.

Husson got on the scoreboard just 30 seconds into the game when Sean Lyne scored off of an assist from Danny Carter.  Just over four minutes later, Gunner McAllister then found Jaden Wells, who found the back of the net to make it 2-0, Eagles.  McAllister and Carter extended the advantage to 4-0 following a pair of unassisted goals, but Rob Casucci (Fairfield, CT) got Lyndon on the board with a man-up goal off of an Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA) assist at the 3:18 mark of the opening quarter.  Ben Huynh got the goal back a minute later to give Husson a 5-1 lead after one quarter.

The Eagles extended their lead to 8-1 following another unassisted McAllister goal and two more unassisted scores from Carter.  with 2:13 to go before halftime, Benjamin Cheever (Johnson, VT) took a pass from Cam Meigs (St. Johnsbury, VT) and fired a shot past Husson goalie Bryan Wagg to cut into the Husson lead.  However, Lyne scored with under a minute left before halftime to send Husson into intermission with a 9-2 advantage.

In the third quarter, Hornet goalie Aaron Florence (Lutz, FL) came up with several big saves to keep the Eagles at bay.  Townsend's unassisted goal at the 8:12 mark brought Lyndon one goal closer, but Wagg also made some key stops in the Husson goal to prevent Lyndon from cutting into the lead further.

Husson's Darryn Bailey scored a man-up goal just 23 seconds into the final quarter, and Huynh's unassisted tally at the 8:28 mark made it 11-3, Eagles.  Wells then colsed the door for the Eagles, as he scored four goals in the final 5:46 to account for the final score.

Wagg finished with 14 saves on 17 shots on goal to earn the win.  Florence stopped 25 of the 40 shots on goal that he faced.  Husson outshot Lyndon, 63-24, for the game, and had a 69-28 advantage in ground balls.  Eagle faceoff man Jacob Larochelle had a dominant day at the X, winning 20 of 21 faceoffs.

Prior to Saturday's game, the Hornets honored seniors Brandon Barone (Brunswick, ME), Mike Bear (Colchester, CT), Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY), Luc Parrett (Eden Mills, VT), Casucci, Cheever, and Townsend for their contributions to the Lyndon lacrosse program.

The Hornets will wrap up their season with a NAC game at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday afternoon.  Faceoff is set for 1:00 pm.
