Box Score 2 Nashua, NH - Rivier University outhit Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 22-7, over the course of the two teams' non-conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. As a result, the host Raiders came away with a 9-2 win in the opener and followed with a 5-1 victory in the nightcap. Rivier improves to 3-9 on the season with the wins, while Lyndon falls to 5-5.
Game 1 - Rivier 9, NVU-Lyndon 2
Claudia Knapp's (Howell, NJ) two-run home run in the top of the third inning pulled Lyndon into a 2-2 tie, but Rivier pounded out 12 hits and scored at least once in each of the final six innings to come away with the win. Sarah Frazier had a pair of hits, including a solo home run, to lead Rivier. Micayla Bourski had a pair of hits and a pair of runs batted in while Julia Dailey and Nicole Capra added two hits apiece. Lauren Siciliano (Lynbrook, NY) doubled for the Hornets. Amber Everett (Morrisville, VT) and Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) had Lyndon's other two hits.
Nicole Verrette came on in the fourth inning and threw four shutout innings of one-hit relief, striking out six, to get the win. Rivier starter Courtney Marioles started and allowed two unearned runs and three hits in three innings of work. Lyndon starter Victoria Valentine (Lyndon, VT) went the distance and took the loss.
Game 2 - Rivier 5, NVU-Lyndon 1
Rivier starter Emma Langer didn'a allow a Lyndon hit through the first five innings and River scored two runs apiece in the second and third innings. Dailey went three for four to pace Rivier. Seven other Raiders hit safely in the game. Lyndon got their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, following doubles from Knapp and Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH). Ryann Fortin (Derby, VT) had the Hornets' only other hit.
Langer threw a complete game, striking out two without yielding a walk, to pick up the win. Hornet starter Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) also went the distance and was tagged with the loss.
The Hornets will return to the diamond next Sunday afternoon when they travel to Lesley University for another non-conference doubleheader.
