Box Score 2 North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team tested itself against two perennially strong programs at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to generate any offense against either team, as they only produced five hits over the two games. In their first game of the day they faced in-state rival Castleton University, and came up on the short end of an 8-0 score. The Hornets then squared off against an NAIA institution, Shawnee State University, and fell 13-0. The Hornets are now 4-3 on the season, while Castleton and Shawnee State both remain unbeaten at 4-0 and 5-0 respectively.
Game 1 - Castleton 8, NVU-Lyndon 0
The Hornets only mustered two hits, a Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) double and a Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH) single, against Castleton starter Olivia Joy. Jessica Heinrichs had a triple and a single and scored twice to lead the Spartan attack. Allison Almond had a three-run double for Castleton.
Joy got the win in the circle, while Lyndon's Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) went the distance and took the loss.
Game 2 - Shawnee State 13, NVU-Lyndon 0
Lyndon didn't fare any better in the nightcap, as Shawnee State's Cassie Schaefer and Cameryn Davidson combined for a three-hit shutout. Smanatha Valentine (Lyndon, VT) had two of the three Hornet hits, with Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) picking up the other. Meanwhile the Bears pounded out 12 hits to generate their 13 runs. Aleeya Adkins had a huge game at the plate with two doubles, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. Kylie Ray, Ashley Fite, and Rylie Hughes also had two hits each.
Davidson got the win in felief for the Bears while Lyndon's Victoria Valentine (Lyndon, VT) took the loss.
The Hornets will conclude their spring trip to Myrtle Beach on Sunday when they play a doubleheader against Massachusetts Maritime Academy. First pitch at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
