Daytona Beach, FL - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team fell behind big early in Monday afternoon's game against SUNY Brockport and never recovered. The Golden Eagles ran away with a 103-56 victory in the final game of the Mauro Panaggio Tournament, hosted at DME Academy. Brockport improved to 8-3 with the win, while Lyndon fell to 2-8.
Brockport jumped out to a 24-7 lead and never looked back. The Eagles led by 30 at half and continued to pull away in the second stanza. The Eagles forced 31 Hornet turnovers and converted those into 39 points. Brockport also dominated around the basket, outrebounding Lyndon, 51-23, and outscoring the Hornets, 60-18, in the paint.
Mekhi Beckett topped five Brockport players in double figures. He recorded a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Cowie added 16 points while David Grady finished with 11 and Jahidi Wallace and Zachary Rice scored 10 points apiece. Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) was the only Hornet in double figures, as he tallied 10 points.
Lyndon is now off until after the Christmas and New Year's Day holiday season. The Hornets will tip off again on January 3rd, when they travel to SUNY Plattsburgh for a 4:00 pm start.
