Utica, NY - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon's defense kept them in their North Atlantic Conference crossover game at SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to mount any offense and came up on the short end of a 3-0 result. SUNY Poly improved to 4-2-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference, while Lyndon fell to 2-8-1 overall and 1-5 in conference.
SUNY Poly dominated possession throughout, controlling the ball over 70% of the game with nearly all of that time in the attacking end. The Hornet defense held up through much of the game, however. With the game scoreless, Poly got on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute when Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) didn't get quite enouh of Hannah Shipley's shot and it trickled into the corner of the net.
The Wildcat lead would remain 1-0 until the 69th minute, when Shipley found Kaitlyn Daley and Daley converted to make it 2-0. Brooke Bush would add an insurance goal in the 73rd minute to account for the final score.
Poly got off 41 shots in the game while Ashley Hart's (Hampton, NH) shot in the 18th minute was Lyndon's only one of the game. Cordwell made 17 saves to keep the Hornets in the game, while Michalyn Fagan and Katie Bowers each played a half to post the combined clean sheet for Poly.
The Hornets return to action on Thursday when they host Northern Vermont University-Johnson in another NAC crossover contest that had originally been scheduled for September 25th. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
