Hornet volleyball drops a pair of NAC matches to UMPI

Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle swept a pair of North Atlantic Conference volleyball matches from Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday.  The host Owls took both matches in straight sets to improve to 3-14 on the season and 3-2 in NAC play.  The Hornets remained winless in 17 overall matches, including four conference matches, this season.

UMaine-Presque Isle 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-16)

The opening set was tightly contested early on.  After back to back kills from Calysta Lohman (Seward, AK), the Hornets held a 9-7 advantage.  UMPI responded by scoring the next five points to grab the advantage, and pulled away from there.  The second set followed a similar script, with the early going closely contested, before a nine-point Owl run gave the hosts some breathing room.  The Hornets took an early 8-5 lead in the third set, but a 9-1 UMPI run tipped the set back in favor of the home team.  The Owls then cruised to the set win to close out the match.

Makayla Miskiewicz led the UMPI attack with 10 kills.  Setter Hailey Kelly had 21 assists and Alexis Engel and Kaylee Blazick recorded 13 and 10 digs respectively.  Emori Davis (Fairfield, TX) had five kills to pace Lyndon.  Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) had 12 assists and eight digs while Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) had a team best nine digs.

UMaine-Presque Isle 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-11)

UMPI quickly took control of the second match, jumping out to an 8-1 advantage in the first set and cruising to the set win.  The Owls took a 16-1 lead on the way to taking the second set, then kept the Hornets at bay in the third set to close out the match.

Alondra Lopez had nine kills to lead UMPI.  Amalia Erives recorded 14 assists and Engel finished with 10 aces and seven digs.  Lohman had four kills for the Hornets.  Porter posted five assists and Morris had 12 digs.
