Hornet volleyball takes opening set in loss to Anna Maria

Paxton, MA - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team won their first set of the season in Wednesday night's non-conference matchup at Anna Maria College.  It wasn't enough, however, as the AMCATS rallied to take the next three sets and the match, 22-25, 25-10, 25-7, 25-10.  Anna Maria improved to 3-11 on the season, while Lyndon remained winless in 18 outings.

With Lyndon holding a 14-13 lead in the opening set, the Hornets went on a five-point run on Calysta Lohman's (Seward, AK) serve to open up a six-point advantage.  Anna Maria would climb back to within 24-22, but an AMCAT service error would give Lyndon the set win.

Anna Maria came storning back to take the second and third sets, jumping out to a big early lead in both frames.  In the fourth set the AMCATS took a quick 4-0 lead, but the Hornets battled back to tie the set at 5-5 following an AMCAT attack error.  That would be as close as Lyndon would get, however, as Anna Maria's Isabella Sand delivered three straight aces to ignite a four-point run that gave Anna Maria a lead that they would never relinquish.

Bella Kozciak finished with eight kills and 14 digs to lead Anna Maria.  Sarah Burt also recorded 14 digs and Julia Tarantino had a team best 12 assists.  Sand added 10 assists and five aces.

Lohman led Lyndon with a career high 15 kills and added 11 digs.  Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) posted a match high 22 digs and Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) was credited with 12 assists.

The Hornets will host their first match in four weeks on Saturday afternoon when Husson University visits for a North Atlantic Conference contest.  The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
