Utica, NY - SUNY Polytechnic Institute took control of Sunday's North Atlantic Conference men's soccer game against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon right from the start and rolled to an 8-0 victory over the Hornets. The Wildcats improved to 7-3-3 overall and 4-0-2 in conference play, while the Hornets fell to 1-9-1 on the season and 0-7 in the NAC.
Wakeley Banker got Poly on the scoreboard in the ninth minute off of an assist from Payton Bennett. Banker also scored once in the second half and six other Wildcats tallied one goal each. Meanwhile, Joesph Patrick Osborn's (Hanover, NH) penalty kick late in the second half was Lyndon's only shot of the game.
Poly outshot Lyndon, 43-1, and generated 15 corner kicks. The Wildcats possessed the ball for 72% of the game, the majority of that time in the attacking end. Hornet goalkeeper Jakob Cannon (Monument, CO) made ten saves, while his Poly counterparts, James D'Alessio and Chase Coluccio, didn't face a shot on goal.
The Hornets will return home next Saturday afternoon to host Husson University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Varsity Field.
