Cazenovia, NY - Cazenovia College scored three times in a five minute stretch late in the first half and went on to a 6-0 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game. The Wildcats improved to 3-7-1 overall and 3-2 in the NAC with the win. The Hornets fell to 2-7-1 on the season and 1-4 in conference.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for the game's first 36 minutes. In the 37th minute, Cazenovia broke through when Jaylah Cossin was able to put a shot past Lyndon goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH). Callie Lafontaine and Jenicah Brown followed with goals in the 40th and 42nd minute respectively and suddenly the Wildcats had a three-goal margin. Lyndon nearly crept closer in the closing seconds of the half, but Cazenovia keeper Kaylana Criasia got just enough of a pioece of Riann Fortin's (Derby, VT) shot to deflect it off the crossbar and keep the Hornets scoreless.
Cazenovia kept the Hornets at bay throughout the second half, and added three more goals, from Darby Lukowski, Cossin, and Lafontaine, over the final 19 mionutes to account for the final score. Lyndon didn't have a shot in the second half until Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH) put a shot on Cazenovia backup keeper Meghan McCarthy in the 84th minute.
The Wildcats outshot the Hornets, 20-2, and generated six corner kicks to none for Lyndon. Cordwell made eight saves in goal, while Criasia and McCarthy each played a half in sharing the clean sheet for Cazenovia.
The Hornets will play another road NAC crossover match on Sunday afternoon when they take on SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The match is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
