Lyndonville, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon dropped a 4-0 decision to Colby-Sawyer College in Tuesday's non-conference men's college soccer game. The Chargers improved to 5-6-2 on the season, while the Hornets, playing with only 13 players, fell to 1-7-1 overall.
Colby-Sawyer got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Callum Buchanan hammered home a rebound after Lyndon goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) stopped Brandon Mejia's initial shot. The Chargers made it 2-1 in the 43rd minute when Buchanan finished off a cross from Fabrice Francois. That's the way things stood heading into halftime, as Colby-Sawyer outshot Lyndon, 20-3, in the opening half of play. The Chargers put eight balls on goal, while the Hornets only managed one shot on goal from Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY).
Buchanan completed the hat trick in the 49th minute when he scored off of a give and go with Jadon Baros. Francois completed the scoring in the 57th minute.
For the game, the Chargers got off 40 shots to only five for the Hornets. The Chargers also posessed the ball for 60% of the game and created seven corner kicks to two for the Hornets. Roy finished with 11 saves in the Lyndon net, while Colby-Sawyer starting keeper Yener Bartolon was only called upon to make one stop before giving way to Ryan Witty for the final 30 minutes.
Lyndon will go on the road this weekend for a pair of North Atlantic Conference crossover matches. On Saturday, they will play at Cazenovia College at 2:00 pm. The following day they will square off against defending NAC champion and East Division co-leading SUNY Polytechnic Institute at 1:00 pm.
