Castine, ME - After a month of non-conference play, the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team took to the road on Saturday afternoon to open North Atlantic Conference play at Maine Maritime Academy. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the four-time defending champion Mariners made quick work of the match, coming away with a 25-7, 25-9, 25-9 victory. Maine Maritime improved to 9-2 on the season in winning their conference opener. Lyndon remains winless in 14 matches on the season.
Rachel Melampy led Maine Maritime with 12 kills and 11 digs. Setter Katie Albritton recorded 11 assists. Calysta Lohman (Seward, AK) paced the Hornets with five kills. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) had five assists and Charlotte Morris (MIddletown, DE) posted eight digs.
The Hornets will remain in Maine for another NAC match on Sunday afternoon at Husson University. Match time is 12:00 noon.
