Lyndonville, VT - The University of Maine at Farmington took an early lead over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon and pulled away for a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer victory on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers improved to 4-2-1 overall and 4-1 in NAC play with the victory. Lyndon fell to 1-6-1 on the season and 0-5 in conference.
Maxon Brochu got the Beavers on the scoreboard less than five minutes into the contest when he won a scramble off of a loose ball, turned, and fired a left foot shot past Lyndon goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT), and into the lower left corner of the net. UMF made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when William Douse ran onto a long ball and one-touched a pass to Coleman Watson, who found the net. That was they way things stayed heading into halftime.
UMF added three more goals after intermission. Zach Chaisson scored in the 61st minute. Then in the 69th minute, Logan Curtis converted a penalty kick following a foul in the box. Eric Vining closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute.
The Beavers outshot the Hornets, 30-6, and earned 15 corners to three for Lyndon. Roy made 11 saves in goal for the Hornets, while Jonah Sautter and Jack Wormald conbined for the clean sheet without having to make a save.
The Hornets will host Colby-Sawyer in a non-conference match Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
