Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cazenovia hangs on to edge Hornet men

Cazenovia, NY - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon trailed Cazenovia College by 13 points with just over six minutes remaining in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game before rallying to within two points in the final seconds.  However when a three-point heave from beyond half court at the buzzer came up short the host Wildcats escaped with a 90-87 victory.  Cazenovia improves to 3-9 on the season and 1-3 in NAC play while Lyndon falls to 2-10 and 0-3 in conference.

The game was a back and forth affair for much of the afternoon, as there were 28 ties and 36 lead changes.  Cazenovia held a 66-64 lead with just over ten minutes to go.  The hosts then went on a 13-2 run run over the next four minutes to move out to a 79-66 advantage with 6:09 to go.  The Hornets then began to chip away, eventually getting to within two points at 89-87 on a three-pointer from Tyrese Harris (Fort Benning, GA) with only three secongs remaining.  After Caenovia's Rashaun Hunter converted one of two free throws, the Hornets had one more chance to tie, but Harris's heave from beyond midcourt was off the mark.

Kobe Bogart topped five double figure scorers for Cazenovia, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Thomas Jones also posted a double double with 14 points and 11 boards.  Hunter added 16 points and Alan Willmes Jr. and Marshall Withers chipped in 10 points apiece.

Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) had another big game for the Hornets.  He finished with 27 points before fouling out with 1:45 remaining.  Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) added 24 points and a team best five assists.  Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) also reached double figures, finishing with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Cazenovia made 35 of 64 field goal attempts (54.7%) but only five of 19 from behind the three-point arc.  Lyndon was 31 for 73 (42.5%), incouding 12 of 30 (40.0%) from distance.  Another difference in the game was on the glass, where the Wildcats enjoyed a 47-35 advantage.

The Hornets' next scheduled contest is another NAC crossover, this time against SUNY Delhi.  Lyndon will host the Broncos on Friday in Stannard Gymnasium, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 pm.
