New London, NH - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon junior Shelby Benton (Sutton, VT) ran a personal best at the 5K distance at the Charger Invitational, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday morning. Benton, the lone Hornet runner in the race, finished in a time of 37:24.74.
Hornet head coach Hayden Bunnell was pleased with Benton's first outing. "Shelby had a good opener and now where we know where she stands right now, and I think she will keep making good improvements as the season goes on."
Colby-Sawyer captured the meet championship, easily outdistancing runner-up Plymouth State College. India Jones of Norwich University captured individual honore, completing the 5K course in 19:45.91.
The Hornets will race next Saturday at the Thomas College Invitational. The race will serve as a preview of this year's North Atlantic Conference championship, which will be run on the same course on October 30th.
