Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team played at home for the first time in four weeks on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the friendly confines of Stannard Gymnasium were not enough, as visiting Castleton University downed the hosts in three sets, 25-15, 25-14, 25-12. The Spartans improve to 4-7 on the season while the Hornets are winless in 11 matches.
Lizzie Goodrich had a big night for Castleton, posting a match high 11 kills. Setter Bre MacDuff recorded 19 assists, while libero Mackenzie Wade finished with 11 digs. Calysta Lohman (Seward, AK) and Kiana Jones (Wilbraham, MA) had five kills apiece for Lyndon. Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) led the Hornets with 11 assists and added five digs and four aces. Jones topped Lyndon with seven digs.
Castleton finished with 30 kills to 16 for Lyndon. The Spartans also took advantage of 11 Hornet service errors, while committing only two themselves.
Lyndon will open North Atlantic Conference play with a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in Stannard Gymnasium. First, they will take on Maine Maritime Academy at 11:00 am. Then, at 4:00 pm they will face Husson University.
