Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornet men fall behind early and can't recover at SUNY Delhi

Delhi, NY - SUNY Delhi scored four first half goals on the way to a 5-0 victory over Northern Vermont-Lyndon in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's soccer crossover contest.  The Broncos improve to 2-5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play while the Hornets fall to 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in the NAC.

Delhi got on the board in the 17th minute when Gabriel Monterossa poked a cross into the corner of the net.  The Broncos made it 2-0 less than a minute later when John Walsh crossed the ball to Michael Williams Jr. and Williams scored.  Monterossa picked up his second goal in the 27th minute when he knocked a loose ball in front of the goal in.  In the 34th minute, Brody Rettle scored following a corner kick to make it 4-0, Delhi, at intermission.

The two teams played to a standoff for much of the second half, before Ruttle picked up his second goal in the 79th minute to account for the final margin.

Delhi outshot Lyndon, 22-4, and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Hornet goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) stopped five of ten shots on goal.  Delhi starting keeper Jonathan Walch picked up the win without having to make a save.  Tucker Garrett relieved Walch in the 68th minute and stopped a pair of shots, both from Lyndon's Josh Cole (Irasburg, VT), to preserve the clean sheet.

The Hornets continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon when they face SUNY Cobleskill in another NAC crossover matchup.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
