Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late goal spells doom for Hornet women in NAC opener

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's soccer team opened North Atlantic Conference play on Sunday afternoon, as they hosted Thomas College on Varsity Field.  The Terriers broke a 1-1 tie in the 87th minute when Mary Larochelle redirected a cross into the net for the game winner.  Thomas earned their first win of the season, moving to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in NAC play.  Lyndon remains winless in three starts.

Larochelle got Thomas on the board in the 10th minute of the game when she directed Kelsey Currier's corner kick into the goal.  The Hornets got the equalizer in the 62nd minute when Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH) was taken down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick.  Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) converted, beating Terrier goalkeeper Isabelle Lang in the lower right corner.

Thomas outshot Lyndon, 14-5, and had a 9-2 advantage in corners.  Lyndon keeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) made four saves.  Lang, Lauren Bartlett, and Madison Rock split time in goal for Thomas and didn't face a shot on goal other than the penalty kick.

The Hornets will go on the road for the first time on Wednesday evening when they travel to Rivier University for a 7:00 pm non-conference matchup.
