Box Score 2 Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team closed out its season with a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets struggled to string hits together all day, resulting in a sweep by the visiting Owls. UMF improves to 7-13 overall and 7-11 in conference, while the Hornets finish 3-16 on the season and 3-12 in NAC play
Game 1 - UMaine-Farmington 9, NVU-Lyndon 1
The Hornets were victimized by seven errors, resulting in eight unearned Beaver runs. Olivia Paradis had a single and a double and scored three times to pace UMF. Melissa Veitch homered for the Owls and Kayleigh Oberg added a double. Faith Poirier (Portsmouth, NH) had a pair of hits for Lyndon and Marin Fowler (Plainfield, VT) had a triple.
Broghan Gagnon went the distance to earn the win for UMF. She only gave up five hits and didn't walk a batter. Gracie Ducker (Lyndonville, VT) was the hard luck loser for the Hornets. She only allowed six hits without walking a batter, and only surrendered one earned run.
Game 2 - UMaine-Farmington 5, NVU-Lyndon 0
The Owls again capitalized on a Hornet miscue to score two unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Oberg was the hitting star with home run, a single, and three runs batted in. Morgan Noyes added a double. The Hornets were unable to string their five hits together and were kept off the scoreboard. Poirier and Ducker each had doubles.
Maddelyn Souza pitched a complete game five-hit shutout for the Owls. Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) also went the distance for Lyndon, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out four and walking four.
Prior to today's games the NVU-Lyndon softball program recognized its two seniors, Cassie Black (Tolland, CT) and Emma Moore (Hillsborough, NH) and thanked them for their contributions to Hornet softball.
