Box Score 2 Presque Isle, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon dropped both ends of a North Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The host Owls improved to 11-7 on the season and 10-4 in NAC play while the Hornets fell to 2-12 overall and 2-8 in conference.
Game 1 - UMaine-Presque Isle 11, NVU-Lyndon 3
The Hornets held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the third inning, but the Owls scored three times in the third and fourth, and twice in the fifth and sixth to pull away for the win. Jordan Hansen hit a pair of home runs and scored three times to lead UMPI. Anaiz Diaz and Marissa Valdivia added two hits apiece. Gracie Ducker (Lyndonville, VT) and Marin Fowler (Plainfield, VT) each had two hits to pace the Hornets.
Brookelynn Garcia pitched four innings of scoreless relief to garner the win for UMPI. Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) went the distance in a losing effort for Lyndon.
Game 2 - UMaine-Presque Isle 16, NVU-Lyndon 3
UMPI pounded out 18 hits in completing the sweep. Melanie Terry led the Owl attack with four hits, including a triple and a double, six runs batted in, and two runs scored. Hansen had another big game with three hits and Delanie Strout added three hits and three runs scored. Jaydan Allinson (Miami, AZ) had two of Lyndon's four hits. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) added a triple and a run batted in.
Valdivia picked up the win in relief, while Ducker took the loss for the Hornets.
The two teams will complete their four game series tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 10:00 am.
