Box Score 2 Bangor, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team opened a four-game North Atlantic Conference series at Husson University with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets were unable to get their bats going and had a rough day in the field as the host Eagles came away with the sweep, taking the opener, 15-0, and the nightcap, 11-0. Husson improves to 13-1 on the season. The Eagles lead the NAC East Division with a 6-0 mark. The Hornets fall to 2-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference.
Game 1 - Husson 15, NVU-Lyndon 0
Husson's Kenzie Dore got the hosts going with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and the Eagles never looked back. Dore also tripled and doubled, driving in five runs in the process. Sydney Ames also had three hits for the Eagles. Marin Fowler's (Plainfield, VT) one-out single in the top of the fifth inning was Lyndon's only hit in the game.
Ames pitched the first three innings and picked up the win in the circle. She struck out four and walked two without yielding a hit. Gracie Ducker (Lyndonville, VT) started and took the loss for the Hornets. Only six of Husson's 15 runs were earned, as the Eagles took advantage of eight Hornet errors.
Game 2 - Husson 11, NVU-Lyndon 0
Husson plated all 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap. The Eagles had five base hits and drew four walks in the inning. Husson was also aided by four Hornet errors, as seven of the 11 runs were unearned. Hornet pitchers Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) and Ducker kept the Eagles off the scoreboard and did not allow a hit the rest of the game.
Lyndon didn't have a hit until Ashley Hart's (Hampton, NH) single leading off of the third inning. Ducker and Madison Reardon (Saranac Lake, NY) had Lyndon's other hits, as the Hornets never advanced a runner past second base in either game of the doubleheader.
Jill Bisson picked up the complete game win for Husson, striking out three without walking a batter. Valentine was tagged with the loss for the Hornets.
The Hornets and Eagles will conclude the series with another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
