Hornet softball drops a pair at Rivier

Nashua, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon softball team took to the road for a non-conference doubleheader at Rivier University on Saturday afternoon.  The Hornets were not able to get their offense going and lost both games of the twinbill, 14-0 in the opener and 13-1 in the nightcap.  Lyndon is 0-4 on the season while the games were the season openers for Rivier.

Game 1 - Rivier 14, NVU-Lyndon 0

Leading 1-0, the Raiders broke the game open with 13 runs on 10 singles in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Katerina St. Angelo, Nicole Verrette, and Sara Mainville each had two hits for the Raiders.  Jaydan Allinson (Miami, AZ) had Lyndon's only two hits in the game.

Verrette went the distance to get the win for Rivier.  Allinson took the loss for the Hornets.

 

Game 2 - Rivier 13, NVU-Lyndon 1

The Hornets jumped in front in the top of the first inning.  Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) singled with one out.  After Gracie Ducker (Lyndonville, VT) drew a walk, Salena Porter's (St. Johnsbury, VT) base hit scored Valentine.

Allinson retired the Raiders in order in the bottom of the first, and the Hornets went in order in the top of the second.  In the bottom of the second Rivier pushed acrodd nine runs on six hits to take control of the game.  The Raiders' Olivia Boucher added a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, and the Hornets never threatened the rest of the way.

Nicole Capra had a pair of hits for Rivier, as the Raiders put up 13 runs on only seven hits, but took advantage of 10 walks.  Valentine had two hits for the Hornets.  Porter and Danielle Robinson (Strafford, VT) had Lyndon's other two hits.

Sydney Greeno went the distance, striking out seven, to earn the win for Rivier.  Valentine took the loss in relief for the Hornets.

The Hornets are scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference play with a doubleheader at NVU-Johnson on Thursday afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm.  Lyndon will open the home portion of the schedule next Saturday when they host NVU-Johnson at 2:30 pm.
