Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hornet men can't hold first half lead as UMF runs away with NAC victory

Farmington, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon held a 40-39 lead with under five minutes remaining in the first half of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball opener at the University of Maine at Farmington.  The host Beavers then closed the half on a 19-0 run and broke the game open in the second half to pick up a 129-76 victory.  UMF improves to 5-1 overall on the season, while Lyndon falls to 1-6.

The two teams battled on fairly even terms throughout the game's opening minutes.  Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) sparked the Hornets early on, as he scored 22 of his game high 24 points in the first 13 minutes.  Lyndon took their biggest lead at 38-34 following a Max Milton (Ithaca, NY) three-pointer with 6:02 to go in the half.  After a quick 5-0 Beaver run, Milton's jumper gave the Hornets what would be their last lead at 40-39 with 4:43 to go before intermission.

The final few minutes of the first half turned out to be the Hornets' undoing, as the Beavers converted seven Hornet turnovers in eight possessions into a 19-0 run and a 58-40 halftime lead.  Lyndon never threatened in the second half, as UMF pulled away for the win.

The Beavers placed eight players in double figures, with Zach Brown leading the way with 21 points.  Terrion Moss and Kyle Donlin finsihed with 14 points apiece.  Will Harriman posted a double double with 12 points and a game high 10 rebounds.  After Carlisle's 24 points, Milton was the only other Hornet to reach double figures, as he posted12 points.

The Beavers turned 23 Hornet turnovers into 35 points and held a 45-33 rebounding advantage.

The Hornets will travel to Norwich University for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening.  Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm.
