Lyndonville, VT - SUNY Polytechnic Institute scored three goals in the first 17 minutes of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game and went on to defeat Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 5-0. The Wildcats improved to 4-7 on the season and 2-3 in NAC play, while the Hornets fell to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in conference.
Poly's Ashley Kiuber took a through ball from Chloe Smith and found the back of the goal less than four minutes into the game. Hannah Shipley made it 2-0 in the 10th minute when her long shot found the goal. Then Kaitlyn Daley tapped in a cross in the 17th minute to make it 3-0, and give the Wildcats firm control of the game.
Poly added insurance goals from Sarah George and Montana Wolf in the second half and coasted to victory.
The Wildcats outshot the Hornets, 20-4, with all four Hornet shots coming from Riann Fortin (Derby, VT). Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) made 11 saves on 16 shots on goal, while her Poly counterpart, Michalyn Fagan, was only called upon to make one stop.
Lyndon will return to the Varsity Field pitch tomorrow afternoon when they host Cazenovia College tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day. Prior to the 12:00 noon kickoff the Hornets will honor their senior student-athletes.
