Johnson, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon traveled to its sister campus, Northern Vermont University-Johnson, for a North Atlantic Conference volleyball match on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the host Badgers emerged with a victory in straight sets, 25-9, 25-14, 25-16. Johnson evened their season record at 5-5 and improved their NAC record to 2-1 with the win, while Lyndon is winless in 14 contests, including three NAC matches.
With the Hornets holding an early 3-2 lead, the Badgers ran off seven straight points to take control of the opening set, and continued to pull away. Set two saw the Hornets again jump out to an early 3-1 advantage. However, the Badgers would score 11 of the next 14 points to again take control.
The third set would prove to be the most competitive of the match. Following three consecutive Badger errors the Hornets found themselves with a 15-14 advantage. A pair of kills from Johnson's Vanessa Chavez, followed by an ace from Jimmi Lynn Williams put Johnson back in front. Lyndon got back within one at 17-16 following a Johnson ball handling error, but the Badgers closed out the match by running off the next eight points.
Chavez and Christina Betham led Johnson with nine kills each. Mason Lores recorded 18 assists and seven service aces, while Williams posted seven digs. For Lyndon, Kiana Jones (Wilbraham, MA) had four kills. Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) delivered eight assists and Mary Weissauer (Milford, CT) had a match high eight digs.
The Hornets return home on Saturday when they host a non-conference tri-match in Stannard Gymnasium. Lyndon will face Bay Path University at 12:00 noon and Fisher College at 4:00 pm. In between, Bay Path and Fisher will play at 2:00 pm.
