Lyndonville, VT - Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts made two first half goals stand up and went on to defeat Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 2-0, in Tuesday afternoon's men's college soccer game on Varsity Field. The Trailblazers improved to 3-5-1 with the win, while the Hornets fell to 1-9.
MCLA got on the scoreboard less than two minutes into the game when Cola Bean headed in a cross from Francis Matonga. The Trailblazers scored again in the 34th minute, when Junior Florent executed a nice give and go with Bean and fired a shot in the goal.
MCLA outshot Lyndon, 25-2, and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Hornet goalkeeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) made seven saves, while Trailblazer keepers Ryan Taylor and Richard Schineis each played a half to share the shutout without being called upon to make a save.
The Hornets will get back into North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host SUNY Polytechnic Institute in a NAC crossover contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 pm.
