Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornet men can't keep up with UMaine-Farmington

Farmington, ME - The University of Maine at Farmington outshot Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 33-2, enroute to a 5-1 North Atlantic Conference men's soccer victory on Saturday afternoon.  UMF improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the NAC, while the Hornets fell to 1-8 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

Garrett Whitten's unassisted goal in the 16th minute put the host Beavers in front.  In the 36th minute Coleman Watson took a cross from Gracien Mukwa and deposited it in the goal to make it 2-0.  That would be the score heading into halftime, as Lyndon was unable to generate a shot in the first half.

The second half was more of the same, as Mukwa tallied twice sandwiched around a goal from James Pelletier that Mukwa assisted on.  Lyndon's Gilbert Flores (Winsted, CT) broke up the shutout in the 64th minute when he took a pass from Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA), went on a long run, and fired a shot past Beaver goalkeeper Bradley Neal.

UMF finished with 33 shots, while the Hornets managed only two, Flores' goal and a late chance for Luc Parrett (Eden Mills, VT) that UMF backup keeper Josh Castonguay stopped.  The Beavers also held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Hornet keeper Brett Roy (Newport, VT) stopped nine of the 14 shots on goal that he faced.

The Hornets will return home on Tuesday afternoon when they host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference matchup.  Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
